YEARBOOK OF MUSLIMS IN EUROPE
Dear colleagues,
I would like to introduce you to a new important publishing, a Yearbook of Muslims in Europe published by the well-known Dutch academic publisher Brill in Leiden.
Each annual volume provides an up-to-date account of the situation of Muslims in Europe. Covering 46 countries of Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the Yearbook consists of three sections
The first section presents a country-by-country survey of essential data with basic statistics with evaluations of their reliability, surveys of legal status and arrangements, organizations, etc. providing an annually up-dated reference resource.
The second section contains analysis and research articles on issues and themes of current relevance written by experts in the field.
The final section provides reviews of recently published books of significance. The Yearbook is already an important source of reference for government and NGO officials, journalists, and policy makers as well as researchers. The first volume, covering 2008, was published in November 2009, and the second volume in November 2010. The third volume is being published in November 2011:

Session
Religion, migration and the re-forming of identities in Southern Europe

Countries like Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain face an increase in their migrant populations during the last years. In their vast majority these migrants are of African and Asian origin and of course of non-Christian orientation with Muslims being considered as the main ‘threat’ for social cohesion. Many debates are taking place regarding the influence these migrants have in the host countries, especially as far as the national and/or religious identity of the inhabitants in concerned and in addition on the way their continuous coming should be confronted (e.g. by the construction of fences, the denial of political asylum, deportation, etc.).
This session seeks for papers mainly from these four countries, even though not exclusively, in order to have an overview and answer questions like the following: How migrants interact with the local population and what kind of reactions they face on issues regarding religious freedom? Is there any evidence that their presence influences the re-formation of the identity of the locals and how is this taking place? Why migrants are considered as a threat to the dominant religion of these societies and how local authorities, political and religious, react? Is this a real threat or an ideological and symbolical one? Which are the similarities and the differences between these societies? Papers focused on case studies are mostly welcomed as well as comparative studies between these countries or between two different historical periods of the same country, without of course excluding any other innovative proposal.
Send your paper title and an abstract of 250-300 words the most, your name, title, institutional affiliation and a brief CV in one of the following emails until March 31, 2011. The selected papers are going to be submitted for final acceptance to the Conference Organizers by May 1, 2011. After the approval of our session each participant will receive an email with further information. Please keep in mind that if the session is accepted all participants should submit their final paper to the organizer at least one month before the conference in order to be circulated for the discussion.

LE DÉVELOPPEMENT VU DE TURQUIE

Attention, ceci n’est pas un livre d’économie. Il ne traite pas du développement, mais de la croyance au développement. Il s’interroge, à travers une enquête de terrain, sur l’importation, l’appropriation et la consommation de l’idéologie du développement en Turquie par les différents courants, acteurs ou groupes identifiés. Signalant plusieurs bordures ou frontières, à la fois au(x) Nord(s) et Sud(s), en développement ou émergent, ce pays révèle de nombreuses perceptions, interprétations et adaptations spécifiques du développement.
S’observe ainsi une taxinomie de conceptions qui se réfère autant au “stock de connaissances” kémaliste ou musulman qu’à la norme marchande. Cette taxinomie représente, d’une certaine manière, autant de redéploiements locaux de la croyance au développement que cet ouvrage se propose d’analyser de façon empirique.
Levent ÜNSALDI, sociologue/enseignant à l’Université d’Ankara (Turquie) et chercheur associé à l’UMR 201 (Paris 1), a longuement travaillé sur les questions politico-militaires avant d’aborder les problématiques liées à la sémantique du développement.

Bu yıl onuncusunu gerçekleştirecek Defne Türk-Yunan Dostluk Festivali’nin ana temasına paralel olarak düzenlenen fotoğraf yarışması için Ege’nin iki yakasındaki fotoğrafçılara “Deklanşörünüze ‘Diyalog’larımız için basın” çağrısı yapılıyor.
Toprağın suyla, karanlığın ışıkla, çocuğun oyuncakla, komşunun komşuyla kurduğu “diyalog”lara tanıklık etsin kareleriniz.
Türkiye’de ve Yunanistan’da kurulan iki ayrı seçici kurulun değerlendireceği yapıtlara Altın Defne, Gümüş Defne ve Bronz Defne ödülleri verilecek.
Türkiye’de Altın Defne kazanan fotoğrafçı Selanik veya Ksanthi(İskeçe)’ye İstanbul’dan otobüsle gidiş-dönüş bileti ve tarafımızdan belirlenen bir otel’de Eylül-Ekim-Kasım 2011 tarihlerinde 2 gece konaklama hakkı kazanacaktır.
Son başvuru tarihi 5 Mayıs 2011 olan yarışmanın sonuçları 15 Mayıs 2011′de açıklanacak.

YARIŞMA ŞARTNAMESİ:
1. Yarışmanın adı: Defne Türk-Yunan Derneği Fotoğraf Yarışması
2. Yarışmanın Konusu: Diyalog
Tarihin Tekerleği’nin insandan yana döndüğü, diyalogların çoğaldığı bir dönemdeyiz. Artık birbirimizle buluşmalarımız artıyor, birbirimize daha çok dokunuyoruz. Artık birbirimizi daha iyi dinliyoruz, daha içten söylüyor, anlatıyoruz. Artık herkes kendini bir diğerinin yerine koymak için daha yürekten çaba gösteriyor.
Onun için bu yılki festivalimizin ana temasını “Diyalog” olarak seçtik. Ege’nin iki yakasındaki fotoğrafçılara da bu yüzden deklanşörlerinize ‘Diyalog” için basın” duyurusu yapıyoruz.
Bu çağrı yalnızca insanın insanla diyaloglarını, konuşmalarını kapsamıyor. Dansla müziğin, toprakla suyun, sesle sözün, dünle bugünün yaptığı tüm diyalogları kameranızla anlatmaya; yaşamlara, dünyaya geniş bir gönül gözüyle bakmaya çağırıyoruz sizleri…
3. Yarışmanın Amacı:
Her sene her iki yakayı birleştiren dostluk festivalleri planlayan ve gerçekleştiren derneğimizin amacı temel tema olarak seçtiği ‘Diyalog’ temasını fotoğraf sanatı aracılığıyla görsel dilin evrenselliğine taşımak, Ege’nin iki yakasındaki fotoğraf tutkunlarını bu görsel dilin ortak paydasında buluşturmak.
4. Genel Katılım Şartları
Yarışmaya; Değerlendirme Kurulu üyeleri, Defne Türk-Yunan Dostluk Derneği personeli çalışanları ve birinci derece yakınları katılamaz.
Yarışmaya eser gönderenler, eserlerin kendilerine ait olduğunu beyan ve taahhüt etmiş sayılacaklardır.
Her katılımcı yarışmaya en çok 5 fotoğrafla katılabilir.
Defne Türk-Yunan Dostluk Derneği katılımcıların fotoğraflarıyla ilgili izinler ve telif haklarıyla ilgili herhangi bir sorumluluk kabul etmez.
Yarışmanın neticesinde, seçici kurul, seçilen fotoğrafın başka bir yarışmada derece almış olduğunun ortaya çıkması durumunda, alınan ödül iptal edilir ve eğer verilmişse, ödül sahibinin, ödülü derhal iade etmesini talep eder. Bu iptal durumu, diğer ödül almış ve/veya alamamış yarışmacılar bakımından hiçbir manada talep hakkı doğurmaz.
Değerlendirme Kurulu’nun seçtiği fotoğraflardan bir katalog hazırlanacaktır. Katılımcılara sergileme ve katalog için ayrıca telif ödenmeyecektir.
5. Kategoriler
Yarışma fotoğraf yarışmasıdır. Aynı konuda ya da teknikte çekilmiş siyah-beyaz ya da renkli olarak en az 1, en çok 5 fotoğraf ile katılım kabul edilir.
6. Boyutlar
Yarışmaya katılacak fotoğraflar, 35×50 cm boyutunda, 300 dpi çözünürlükte, tif ve jpg formatında CD’ye kaydedilecektir.
7. Eserlerin İşaretlenmesi
Fotoğraflar dijital olarak kabul edilecektir. Fotoğrafların kaydedileceği CD ve CD zarfının üstüne ad soyad ve iletişim bilgilerinin yazılması gerekir. CD’ye kaydedilecek fotoğrafların adları ise katılan kişinin ismi+01.tif veya jpg olmalıdır.
Bu hususlardaki tüm bilgilerin doğruluğundan katılımcı sorumludur.
8. Eserlerin Gönderilmesi
CD hasar görmeyecek şekilde paketlenip katılım formuyla birlikte aşağıdaki adrese posta ya da kargo ile gönderilecek veya elden teslim edilecektir. Gecikmeden Defne Türk-Yunan Dostluk Derneği sorumlu değildir. Defne Türk-Yunan Dostluk Derneği postaları aldığına ilişkin teyit göndermeyecektir.

Presentation
This conference will be centred on the way North American minority and exilic literatures problematize such generally received notions as home and belonging. Often localised on an anxious border between an originary, imaginary "homeland" — only recuperated through myth and storytelling — and the lived present, caught between here and there, departure and arrival, such literatures readily generate themes and tropes of nostalgia and the in-between: an "insider-outsider" status caught between community affiliations of origin and the social and cultural space of the adopted nation.
Yet at the same time "minoritized literatures remind us that nations are made, not born, and are thus open to refashioning" (Cho, 2007) suggesting that the "insider-outsider" both confirms and calls into question the norms and values that construct national unities. Do minority and exilic literatures therefore contribute to a dynamic political imaginary, envisaging alternative modes and discourses of citizenship? Can they contribute to reconceptualising the notions of home and nationhood and to challenging fixed assumptions of authentic origins?
In this case what strategies – patterns, themes, metaphors, images – serve to reflect on and reshape the network of relations tying the individual to the community? How does textual, representative space deflect or reflect the political and ideological?

INTÉGRATION OU EXCLUSION ?

La laïcité qui est censée être le principe d’intégration des sociétés modernes, est discutée la plupart du temps en parallèle avec des questions d’exclusion dans nos sociétés contemporaines. Dans ces discussions, on remet en cause d’une part, les systèmes sociaux et politiques des sociétés européennes à cause des problèmes d’intégration culturelle des immigrés provenant des pays ex-colonisés, d’autre part les atouts des projets modernisateurs du début du siècle dernier. Quand la laïcité, en tant que principe qui assure l’égalité, reste inefficace devant les problèmes d’intégration de certains qui prétendent avoir vécu une exclusion à la fois culturelle et sociale, elle doit être repensée à travers les problèmes d’exclusion des acteurs. En quoi la laïcité reste-t-elle incapable d’assurer l’égalité et l’intégration de tous dans l’espace public ? En quoi est-elle insuffisante dans le traitement des identités fondées sur les religiosités reconstruites ? Pourquoi est-elle considérée par certains comme un facteur exclusif, et non pas intégrateur ? Le présent livre essaie de comprendre la transformation du rapport des religions avec l’espace public dans le contexte postcolonial. Nous débattons ce rapport à travers l’analyse des modalités de la reconstruction des identités religieuses dans différents pays et des difficultés des institutions sociales classiques à cerner les revendications des nouveaux acteurs. Nous souhaitons que cc livre soit une contribution comparative aux réflexions sur la religion, l’espace public, la laïcité et le "vivre-ensemble", qui occupent depuis quelques décennies le devant de la scène des sciences sociales.
